TMS Resources
Research timeline
From European research to simulation-based traffic management
The resources below collect the evolution of TMS from European railway traffic optimization research to FRISO simulation studies, ATO-related work and available papers or presentations.
1995-2000
On AIR begins to study railway traffic optimization problems with the EU projects MARCOdw.
2000-2003
The TMS was developed under two subsequent EU projects, COMBINE and COMBINE 2, and enhanced during application studies by ProRail in the Netherlands.
2005
Starting from 2005, TMS connects with Flexible Rail Infra Simulation of Operations (FRISO) in simulation environments.
2007-2013
Simulation studies address high-complexity areas and bottlenecks such as Schiphol, Hertogenbosch and Den Bosch, comparing TMS route setting with other operational strategies.
2019 - Today
TMS has been reworked for ATO-oriented scenarios, focusing on trackside planning logic and fast global optimization for large running-train sets.
